Description

Communicating with confidence and developing executive presence can be crucial to career success. Studies with hiring managers have shown “executive presence” counts for 26% of what it takes to get promoted. Executive presence also ranks high on the list of desirable leadership traits for today’s corporate and organizational leaders. In fact, legendary investor Warren Buffett says ‘skillful communication’ is the top skill needed for business success.

Margo will cover three primary components in her talk:

Communication: People with a compelling executive presence are skilled communicators. They’re able to clearly and concisely articulate their ideas and express themselves. It doesn’t mean they’re the loudest person in the room; often, they use their voice sparingly, and when they do talk, people listen.  They’re able to communicate their passion and connect with their audience on an emotional level.

Planning effective communication:

  • Who’s your audience?
  • What’s your message?
  • How to effectively present it.

Managing Emotion: Self-awareness and understanding others are essential components of executive presence. The ability to control your emotions, recognize emotion in others and manage your response to them is key. ‘Composure’ could be defined as ‘emotional intelligence.’ Knowing when to maintain your poise, your temper and your patience can help you navigate the complexities of today’s marketplace.

Projecting Confidence: One key aspect of executive presence is to communicate confidence both in what you say and how you say it. Body language and non-verbal communication play a vital role.

We’ll discuss tips for positive body language, posture, and the elemental neuroscience behind reading others’ body language.
