Coordinates and schedules First-Aid classes for Bus Driver’s, Bus Assistant’s and M & O drivers for certification and recertification requirements
High school graduation or equivalent
Five years bus-driving experience within a major transportation system
Have a history of consistent attendance and positive evaluations
Successful completion of the Washington State Pupil Transportation Management Supervisor’s Training Program
Criminal background check
Valid Washington State Driver’s License; Commercial Driver’s License, Class B with appropriate endorsements
A clean 5-year complete driving abstract
Current first aid training certification
Safety standards, laws, codes, rules, requirements, policies and procedures related to pupil transportation
Demonstrate basic knowledge of technology and willingness and ability to increase knowledge to proficiency
Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior, and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others
Ability to understand and hold self and others accountable for promoting the Federal Way Public Schools’ commitment to “Each Scholar: A Voice
Ability to recognize that each person is a unique individual even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage
This includes screening, interviewing and selection process for the transportation department
This position sends intent to hire forms to HR for placement into the training program as Guest Bus Driver or Guest Bus Assistant
Under the direction of the Transportation Assistant Director, this position facilitates and conducts recruitment and training for potential new school bus drivers and school bus assistants
Basic responsibilities include: organization of Driver Trainers and training needs, and continued monitoring and enhancement of driver training program
Ensures all driver certifications are current and supports the District’s safety programs
This position participates in observation ride-alongs and provide evaluative input
Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned

Coordinates and oversees initial, advanced and continuing school bus driver training programs assuring compliance with state and federal laws and district procedures
Performs behind-the-wheel and classroom training, including scholar management
Facilitates recruitment and screening of all new candidates
Supervises and monitors certified drivers, certified driver trainers, assistant driver trainers, guest bus drivers, guest bus assistants and drivers to ensure that they perform their job responsibilities
Recommends to Assistant Transportation Director, placement of candidates into training program and as substitutes drivers once training is complete
Oversees and maintains all driver’s certification credentials in the OSPI database and completes STARS annual Washington State Compliance Report
Organizes the training program and Driver Trainers to ensure the District can meet its transportation obligations
Provides retraining and safety evaluations as needed
Coordinates retraining amongst driver trainers
Provides training in the processes and procedures required for bus driving and student management
This includes classroom and behind the wheel training
Maintains all driver certification records, including first aid, physical, CDL, abstracts and in-service attendance
Observes and evaluates driver performance of duties; carries forward driver corrective/disciplinary action as necessary
Provide retraining and observation assistance as directed
Coordinates and performs Bus Driver In-service planning, training and delegates lessons plans for driver trainer presentations
Seeks methods to enhance training program to improve safety and meet adult learner needs
Coordinates and oversees all prospective training candidates in the state and federal requirements to obtain a learner’s permit to be trained in a school bus
Supports Transportation needs through open communication and effective and timely training techniques
Maintains confidentiality, specifically as it relates to staff and student personal information
Provides leadership in such areas as fleet operations and safety and oversees transportation Shop CDL credentials
Coordinates with shop manager for safety practices, scheduling shop tours and continuing education ie, chaining classes, State Patrol compliance, bus availability, etc
Facilitates emergency evacuation drills
Enters accidents into the system and sends to security
Maintains accident files
Conducts accident investigations
Educates and trains new guest drivers in Federal Drug/Alcohol Testing requirements for all CDL staff and sends all new drivers for pre-employment drug screening
Provides leadership working with training staff to coordinate principle meetings, emergency evacuation drills, type II compliance, etc
Maintains all bus driver training records/files according to OSPI and district standards
Assist with routing and dispatching duties
Assists with development of policies and procedures relating to transportation
This position may be required to help with inclement/emergency weather on-the-road evaluation
Relate effectively with parents, staff, students and the public in a multicultural and multiracial community
Interpret and instruct map reading skills
Communicate orally, and in writing, and to demonstrate an understanding of training techniques for adults
Organize and coordinate activities of others with attention to detail
Demonstrate flexibility to meet all training needs
Multi-task and shift between activities

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly stand and walk, bend neck and back, use hands for repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling
The employee will constantly be required to sit for extended periods of time and use a computer screen and keyboard
The employee will occasionally lift/carry a maximum of 40 lbs
The employee is occasionally required to push/pull a maximum weight of 300 pounds
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor and outdoor conditions and regularly works near video display
Interruptions are expected and occasional inflexible deadlines
This position will come in contact with angry or frustrated individuals
The employee is required to travel to various locations for assessing area for bus stops and occasionally covering a bus runs
Will drive in inclement weather to assess road conditions
This position typically works Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, 260 days per year
