Join us for a keynote from Toshiko Grace Hasegawa, Port of Seattle Commission President.

Toshiko is a small business owner and Port of Seattle Commission President. She is a fourth-generation Japanese American and a lifelong resident of the Beacon Hill neighborhood in South Seattle. She is the daughter of the labor movement and a descendant of World War II incarcerees. Toshiko's passion for public service is fueled by her commitment to civil rights and promoting access to opportunities for historically marginalized communities.
 
She believes that advancing equity, environmental, and economic goals go hand-in-hand and that the Port of Seattle has a key role in leading industries toward advancements that benefit businesses, communities, and the health of our planet.
 
In 2021, Toshiko was elected to the Port of Seattle Commission, making her the first Asian American woman to serve in its 110-year history. In 2018, she was appointed by Governor Jay Inslee as Executive Director of Washington State’s Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs, becoming the youngest woman of color to head a cabinet-level agency in State history. Toshiko served as a member of the Governor’s Subcabinet on Business Diversity, the Disaster Resiliency Workgroup, the Deadly Force Task Force, and other state committees. She has worked in legislative offices at the federal, state, and local levels and worked as a countywide communications manager at King County’s Office of Law Enforcement Oversight, where she worked to promote transparency and accountability in policing operations.
